Most of the existing scientific literature on circular economy primarily emphasizes innovations within the technical nutrient cycle (technosphere), while paying relatively limited attention to solutions within the biological nutrient cycle (biosphere), despite their significant potential for substituting environmentally harmful products and tackling the pollution of ecosystems as aquatic systems. This study aims to identify the bio-circular innovation development-related hurdles and its influence on general innovation process. Utilizing a multiple case-study approach, it investigates effects at distinct innovation process stages, focusing on companies engaged in developing innovative solutions for the biological cycle.
