In this work, the hydroacoustic principals of a stealth outer-hull shape for sonar use are examined for the first time in the open literature. From these principals, the requirements for such a sonar stealth shape are derived. Taking these requirements into account, a sonar stealth shape is designed starting from a generic, classical outer-hull shape of a generic underwater vehicle. The thus obtained sonar stealth shape has significant advantages over a classical outer-hull shape in terms of acoustic scattering, as proven through numerous calculation examples.
