To deepen our understanding of the potentials and limits of fine bubble aeration for multiphase biocatalytic applications, both global and local studies were conducted within the scope of the current project. On a global scale, the effects of fine bubble aeration can be quantified with respect to the mass transfer performance and reaction efficiency of a biocatalytic reaction in a rotating bed reactor (RBR). The successful immobilisation of the enzyme glucose oxidase (GOx) on epoxy-functionalised carriers enables a reuse of the enzymes, which increases the sustainability and total turnover number of biocatalytic reactions significantly.
