Refrigerant pipes between the components of a vehicle refrigeration unit are often simplified as a straight pipe for system simulation. At TUHH refrigerant pipes are examined in detail on a highpressure test rig with the refrigerant CO2. Due to hose sections and bends, the pressure losses of these components are sometimes larger by a factor of three to four compared to straight pipes. For curved pipes without hose sections the pressure loss can also be calculated with sufficient accuracy using numerical flow simulation.
