To investigate the impact of multiple cadmium exposure pathways on internal availability and accumulation, C. elegans were exposed to different particles and to dissolved cadmium. Internal cadmium availability was determined using the transcript level of cdr-1 gene, as quantified by real-time PCR. Particle-associated cadmium exposure was the predominant contributor to cadmium bioavailability and bioaccumulation.
