The present work deals with the microbial production of 2,3-butanediol from CO2, H2 und O2 by Cupriavidus necator. A strain developed here achieved a space-time yield of 39.45 mg l-1 h-1 and a carbon yield of 81.6 % under autotrophic conditions. It was shown that it is possible to purify the product during an ongoing fermentation. In addition, long-term production over a period of 2 months was investigated, which showed stable productivity. Genetic influences were investigated in order to further stabilize long-term production. Initial steps were also taken to identify essential genes for biofilm formation of the organism.
