Research Work in Progress Paper: Loops are a fundamental concept of programming. For novice programmers loops generally and nested loops specifically pose big difficulties. This paper identifies common student misconceptions about loops in a first-year C++ introductory computer science course and the relation of these misconceptions to representations. These findings could help design effective instructional methods.
