This study investigates the hydrodynamic behavior of particles in the fast fluidization regime in a pilot-scale circulating fluidized bed riser ( d <inf>i,riser</inf> = 0.1 m, h = 8 m). Measurements were carried out using fluid catalytic cracking catalyst (FCC) with a Sauter mean diameter of 61.5 μm at superficial gas velocities from 2 to 5 m/s and solids fluxes from 3.1 to 19.3 kg/(m2s) in the fully developed flow region. A borescopic high-speed camera system enabled radial measurements of individual particle trajectories via particle tracking velocimetry (PTV). Radial solids concentration profiles were evaluated using capacitance probes. A typical core-annular flow was observed in the riser, with low solids concentrations in the center and higher concentrations in the wall region. Local solids fluxes derived from solids concentration and velocity data were consistent with directly measured solids fluxes. Overall, this work provides a comprehensive experimental dataset on particle hydrodynamics in CFB systems, serving as reference data for computational fluid dynamics/discrete element method (CFD-DEM) model validation.
