This paper examines the circularity of products across different product types. The focus is on short circulation paths such as remanufacturing and refurbishing, which offer the greatest value retention. To achieve this, products must have a modular design so that modules can be easily dismantled and reused via standardized interfaces. Sensors are required to record service life-relevant influences and digital module twins to store this data. Other topics include the requirements for modular products for efficient, highly automated disassembly and reassembly as well as the automated configuration of new products from modules with a defined remaining service life.
