In this work, we introduce a novel radar-based groundspeed sensor (RGSS) capable of measuring the two-dimensional movement of road vehicles. Using four 122 GHz transceivers, the sensor features an update rate of 100 Hz suitable for highly dynamic driving scenarios. The system is compact and lightweight, with a fully 3D-printed dielectric lens assembly. We compare the proposed sensor system with a state-of-the-art optical groundspeed sensor (GSS), showing that similar accuracy and lower measurement noise can be achieved.
