The analysis of the characteristics of power distribution systems on ships is presented. The multiconductor line theory is used for modeling the typical configurations. The model parameters of the line are numerically calculated and experimentally validated. Proximity effect, inhomogeneity of the medium and shield coupling are taken into account. Using the developed model the influence of shield grounding arrangement and the line configuration on the data transmission is simulated to define requirements on network design for a communication with a minimum disturbance.
