The dissertation presents a method for developing modular product families which differentiates between individual stages in the product lifecycle. Modularisation is first carried out for each stage, and the individual modularisations are then brought together to cover the full product lifecycle. This method allows for the development of modular product structures which not only simplify the configuration of product variants, but also fulfil the requirements of each stage in the product lifecycle.
