Array antennas enable low-profile systems, adaptive beamforming, and high-speed beam scanning without mechanical movement. These high-performance capabilities often lead to complex and costly designs, limiting a broader usage. Technological advances and innovative components allow more efficient approaches to facilitate electronic beam scanning for novel applications. In this thesis, several concepts, including 3D-printed waveguides and reconfigurable antennas, are introduced. Additionally, a hybrid electrical and mechanical beamforming antenna using an array-fed reflector is presented for applications with limited scanning requirements. Finally, a novel heterodyne beamformer concept is introduced, which does not require phase shifters to scan the beam.
