Satellites require a careful dimensioning of system parameters, especially with regards to budgets and margins of critical system attributes. Different environmental scenarios and operational states of the system or system elements, resulting in specific power demands and availability of power, need to be considered during the system design. Any change in the states, product structure, scenarios, or parameters leads to, often manually performed and, hence, time consuming, adaptions of the calculations. With the current trend towards a model-based systems engineering (MBSE), including these calculations into the models stands to reason. This paper presents an approach to performing a model-based power budget analysis of a satellite using SysML Rollup Patterns. The approach was developed and put to the test in cooperation with OHB System AG, one of Europe’s leading aerospace companies with many years of experience designing satellites.
