A structural-functional analysis of the enzymes chorismate synthase and glutamyltRNA synthetase from Mycobacterium tuberculosis is presented. Crystal structures of both enzymes were solved using X-ray crystallography and a functional analysis showed how single amino acids strongly influence the enzymatic mechanism on a macroscopic level. The data provides a starting point for the design of novel antimycobacterial compounds.
