This thesis reports on the development of numerical methods for the determination of propeller loads for propellers operating under free water surface influences and due to ventilation. The numerical methods are potential-based and different approaches with a boundary element method and a solver coupling approach between a boundary element method and a RANSE solver are developed. The boundary conditions at the free water surface are implemented in the boundary element method in a steady and an unsteady formulation and a validation is given for computed results against experimental data. Unsteady forces and moments are computed for propellers with shallow immersion, propellers with shallow immersion in waves and for ventilating propellers. The results of the numerical methods are compared to experimental results.
