The removal of toxic metal ions by their incorporation into magnetic ferrite is a promising alternative for industrial wastewater treatment. This study explores the formation of ferrite in synthetic and galvanic wastewater. The incorporation extents of different metal ions into ferrite at elevated and ambient temperature were determined and the mechanisms governing the process were suggested. The characteristics of the products were assessed as well. The results describe the optimum process conditions and provide a basis to estimate their applicability for treating different types of industrial wastewater.
