Permeable traffic surfaces used to reduce increasing surface sealing, as well as the subsoil beneath them near the surface, are predominantly in partially saturated conditions.
The basic function used to describe the hydraulic partially saturated soil behavior is the nonlinear soil-water characteristic curve.
A three-phase continuum formulation extended by a capillary pressure-saturation model is used to numerically investigate the influence of wheel loads on the hydraulic-mechanical interaction in partially saturated subgrade materials.
Thus, saturation effects and pore water pressure accumulations, among others, can be recorded under cyclic loading.
With the modeling approach calibrated on extensive experimental investigations, a validated tool is available that can be applied to numerous other problems.
