Digitization is more than just a hype: short innovation cycles, the digitally oriented customer and a volatile competitive environment require companies to achieve an unprecedented speed of reaction. Based on a mixed methods approach – consisting of 18 expert interviews and an online survey with 331 company representatives – this dissertation first identifies drivers for change and analyzes them with regard to their interactions. Second, on the empirical basis, a socio-technical framework for digital transformation is derived, which third is tested. The qualification of the employees turns out to be a central field of action for the digital transformation in supply chains.
