New developments and international examples in the use of precast elements in bridge construction are discussed. A large number of new bridges need to be built in conjunction with maintaining and expanding the transport infrastructure in Germany. Precast construction can make a major contribution to achieving this goal owing to its undisputed advantages, including the high quality standard achieved under controlled conditions and the exceedingly short construction time of structural frameworks. Most countries have used the method of constructing concrete bridges from prefabricated hollow-box segments as a standard for a long period of time unlike Germany. It is useful to look closely at current developments in the construction of precast concrete bridges from around the world.
