Technical standards constitute a fundamental basis for professional practice in the construction industry. Generative artificial intelligence (AI) systems are transforming access to these standards and the development of normative professional knowledge. This paper examines the potential and limitations of AI-supported applications for facilitating access to the content of technical standards in vocational work and learning. It also demonstrates that AI-generated responses must be critically evaluated with regard to their technical accuracy and compliance with applicable standards. These developments give rise to new requirements for vocational education and training in the construction sector.
