The maneuvering performance of ships is highly influenced by the employed propulsion concept. Especially with respect to the crash-stop distance, a slow-speed two-stroke engine driving a fixed-pitch propeller is most unfavorable. Within the scope of the thesis, approaches for the reduction of the crash-stop distance are being analyzed and assessed regarding their influence and technical feasibility.
