The project AERONAUT deals with the potential and design of aerodynamic add-on components to reduce the wind resistance of ships. For this purpose, methods for simulating the unsteady, turbulent aerodynamic flow around bluff bodies of ships are developed and applied. Numerical simulation tools are used to design suitable aerodynamic add-on components for reducing drag. In the context of wind tunnel tests the add-on parts are additionally tested. A large-scale prototype will be manufactured and mounted on a ship of the project partner Jüngerhans to obtain real operating data for validation.
