Über die Auswirkung von Scherbelastung auf das rheologische und elektrische Verhalten von Kohlenstoffnanoröhrchen / Epoxid Suspensionen
By means of combined rheological, electrical, and optical measurements the agglomeration behaviour of carbon nanotubes/epoxy-suspensions is evaluated. Irreversible structural changes (”initial shear effect“) caused by high shear rates are explained with respect to colloid theory. As a consequence dynamical percolation theory is critically discussed assuming secondary agglomeration to be the main reason for the high conductivity values reached in cured composites.

Deposition of advanced phosphor coatings by flame spray pyrolysis
Flame aerosol deposition (FAD) combines synthesis of phosphor particles by flame spray pyrolysis and their deposition onto a substrate in a single process step. Y2O3:Eu phosphor coatings consisting of sub-micrometer particles could be deposited by FAD based on droplet-to-particle conversion within minutes and had brightness equal to that of a conventional micrometer-sized phosphor. Screens of Y2O3:Eu nanophosphor produced by chemical vapor condensation FAD had lower brightness but they potentially could facilitate the highest possible (diffraction-limited) optical screen resolution.

Study of the network formation of carbon nanotubes in epoxy matrices for electrical conductivity improvement
This thesis deals with the formation, analysis and manipulation of carbon nanotube (CNT) networks suspended in epoxy matrices. Investigations are focused on the improvement of the electrical properties of the CNT/epoxy composites. Various research fields (scanning electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, rheology) were combined to improve the overall understanding of CNT network formation mechanisms.
