Item type:Publication, Access status: without files , Added resistance of ships in wavesAdded resistance of ships in waves is determined by a newly developed potential flow method, a Rankine source method, a strip method, and by RANS (Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes) equations solvers. For 10 ships, results of all these methods are compared with each other, with published computed and experimental results, and with approximation formulae submitted to IMO (International Maritime Organisation). The focus is on waves that are short relative to ship length. In spite of the large scatter of results, existing prediction methods appear useful for practical application.Publicationtype: Journal Article43 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Access status: without files , Method rolls for simulating roll motions of shipsMethod rolls was developed to simulate non-linear roll motions of ships. The method was described already by Kroger in 1986, however in German language. Because the method is used frequently even now, this paper documents the method in English, including developments made in the meantime, but excluding the extension to damaged ships.Publicationtype: Journal Article88 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Access status: without files , Squat computations for container ships in restricted waterways(Curran Associates, Inc., 2011); ; ; ; The paper presents results of dynamic squat computations in restricted waterways with two potential flow solution methods and a solver of Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations (RANSE). Computational results are compared with model tests and full-scale measurements for two large post-panamax class container carriers. Ways of computational time reduction are discussed.Publicationtype: Conference Paper41
