Item type:Publication, Access status: without files , Blockchain-based secure archiving of sensor malfunctions in structural health monitoring systemsStructural health monitoring (SHM) systems are widely used to assess the condition of civil infrastructure. Sensor malfunctions in SHM systems may result in erroneous assessments, illuminating the need for secure archiving of malfunctions. However, methods with online functionality for secure archiving of sensor malfunctions in SHM systems have not been reported yet. This paper presents a system for secure archiving of sensor malfunctions based on blockchain technology, designed as a modular add-on for SHM systems. Using a public blockchain framework, the blockchain-based archiving system is implemented and validated for two use cases, demonstrating the potential of blockchain for SHM systems.Publicationtype: Conference Paper23 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Access status: without files , An IFC schema extension for BIM-based description of wastewater treatment plantsBuilding information modeling (BIM) may advantageously be used to support life-cycle management of engineering structures. The Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) are a standardized BIM data format issued by the International Organization for Standardization to describe engineering structures, such as buildings, tunnels, and bridges. Although often employed for describing basic features of structures, the IFC standard is not capable of sufficiently describing the planning procedure of wastewater treatment plants, which is determined by functional aspects. This paper presents an IFC schema extension that supports BIM-based planning of wastewater treatment plants. A semantic model, serving as a formal basis for the IFC schema extension, is defined that contains the semantics describing the information used for planning of wastewater treatment plants. The IFC schema extension proposed in this study enables BIM-based description of wastewater treatment plants in compliance with the IFC standard, and it may serve as basis for wastewater treatment plant simulations.Publicationtype: Journal Article74 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Access status: without files , BIM-based sizing of reactors in processing facilities(Universitätsverlag der Technischen Universität Berlin, 2020-07); ; ; Processing facilities, such as wastewater treatment plants or biogas plants, are complex engineering structures that convert input streams to output streams using physical, biological, or chemical processes. When planning, constructing, and operating processing facilities, a large number of experts are involved, typically collaborating by exchanging unstructured files or even physical hardcopies, rendering planning, constructing, and operating of processing facilities costly and error prone. A promising approach towards improving processing facilities planning, while reducing cost and errors, is based on building information modeling (BIM). Using standardized data exchange formats, such as the Industry Foundation Classes (IFC), BIM supports digital planning of buildings. However, the IFC are currently incapable of describing information required for planning processing facilities, particularly information required for sizing of reactors, which is a crucial task in planning processing facilities. Advancing BIM-based planning of processing facilities, an IFC schema extension to support sizing of reactors is proposed in this paper. With the IFC schema extension, a semantic basis is provided to enable BIM-based sizing of reactors, as exemplarily illustrated by means of biogas plants.Publicationtype: Conference Paper94
