The "Dry Exhaust Gas Cleaning System", a process for the removal of sulphur oxides from ships exhaust gases is examined. The process uses calcium hydroxide pellets (Ca(OH)2) in a fixed bed to absorb SO2 and SO3 molecules. Practical testing was done on an onboard pilot plant and a small test bed. Using the results, a kinetic model describing the chemical reactions, material transport and flow is developed. The model is used to calculate the desulphuring capacities in different conditions. It helps to improve the design of onboard installations of the system.
