The Nobel Prize winner for chemistry and later private scholar Wilhelm Ostwald is an example of a natural scientist who, as early as the beginning of the 20th century, explicitly addressed the organization of scientific communication and thought about the technology of scientific work with an international focus. After a brief overview of the (biographical) prerequisites of Ostwald's scientific organizational activities, this text presents Ostwald's theoretical and practical approaches to forming, formatting and informing science and its media. It deals with activities and actions in scientific work such as reading and writing, collecting and storing, notifying and communicating, organizing and formatting as well as forming, popularizing and creating something new.
