    Brückenschlag zwischen EU-Ambitionen und lokaler Praxis im challenge-based learning der ECIU

    This study examines tensions and opportunities in implementing Challenge-Based Learning (CBL) within the ECIU University alliance, focusing on interdisciplinarity and internationality. Empirical data shows that CBL fosters competence development for interdisciplinary teamwork and international collaboration among students. However, there is a persisting gap between the EU’s vision for innovative education and local implementation, as structural constraints impede sustainable integration. We argue that unlocking CBL’s transformative potential demands pedagogical commitment and systemic changes in university governance and cross-border collaboration.

    Die Bewältigung globaler Zukunftsherausforderungen ist komplex. Um z. B. Klimaveränderungen, Hunger und Umweltschutz mit menschlicher Innovationskraft begegnen zu können, steigt der Bedarf an interdisziplinären Kompetenzen von Hochschulabsolvent:innen zunehmend. Es hat sich herausgestellt, dass zur Gestaltung entsprechender Lernangebote, die thematisch vielfältig und fachlich fundiert sind sowie didaktisch ansprechend interdisziplinäre Nachhaltigkeitskompetenzen fördern, eine hochschulübergreifende Zusammenarbeit von zentraler Bedeutung ist. Der vorliegende Beitrag strukturiert in diesem Sinne Handlungsoptionen für eine kooperative Hochschulentwicklung im Kontext von Nachhaltigkeit und konkretisiert diese exemplarisch am Beispiel des T-Shape-orientierten Entwicklungsprojekts SDG-Campus.

    Cross-disciplinary communication among Ph.D. candidates : how to make it work

    Cross-disciplinary research settings are highly challenging for young scientists. In our research centre, Ph.D. candidates with various disciplinary backgrounds are expected to cooperate. To support cooperation, we designed a Ph.D. programme that fosters cross-disciplinary communication. The programme uses an innovative teaching format that aims to broaden the participants’ understanding of technical basics and to improve their academic teaching skills. Being faced with dissatisfaction among the Ph.D. candidates at first, we introduced a targeted feedback process that paved the way for successful cross-disciplinary communication and cooperation.
