Item type:Publication, Access status: without files , A model-based reconstruction approach to field-free line magnetic particle imagingMagnetic particle imaging (MPI) visualizes the spatial distribution of superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles by exploiting their nonlinear magnetization response to time-varying magnetic fields. In open-sided MPI scanners using a field-free line (FFL), tomographic imaging is achieved by rotating the FFL and reconstructing from angledependent projections. At low tracer concentrations, the induced voltage signal has reduced signal-to-noise ratio resulting in pronounced reconstruction artifacts. The ISBI2026 low-concentration MPI reconstruction challenge aims to address this problem by providing a dataset of high- and low-concentration samples. This paper describes a solution to this challenge. We propose a two-stage pipeline: a simulated system matrix based on an equilibrium Langevin forward model is used to recover sinograms followed by iterative image reconstruction. Despite limited system information, the approach yields competitive reconstructions, though remaining artifacts and moderate similarity metrics indicate a high potential for improvement.Publicationtype: Conference Paper15 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Access status: with files , MPIMeasurements.jl : an extensible Julia framework for composable magnetic particle imaging devices(Infinite Science Publishing, 2023-03-19); ; ; ; Magnetic particle imaging (MPI) is a pre-clinical imaging modality, whose system design is still evolving, in particular towards human studies and clinical use. Therefore, many MPI scanners are custom-made distributed systems, both on the hard-and the software side. In this work we present the open-source Julia framework MPIMeasurements.jl, which implements a composable representation of imaging systems. It also offers flexible data structures that allow the implementation of specific imaging protocols, such as online/offline measurements, repeated measurements and system matrix calibrations. The project is designed to be expanded to new systems through community development and component reuse. To showcase the versatility of the software package, we give an overview of four very different MPI systems, which were realized with MPIMeasurements.jl.Publicationtype: Journal ArticleScopus© Citations 3 26 196 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Access status: with files , A novel approach to FFL trajectory analysis(Infinite Science Publishing, 2023-03-19); ; ; ; The sampling trajectory is an important parameter of a magnetic particle imaging (MPI) system and should be selected in order to guarantee the best image quality constrained by hardware limitations. A simulation study is performed with the side conditions of a permanent magnet-based field-free line (FFL) scanner system evaluating multiple trajectory types (radial, spiral, uniform spiral, flower) and trajectory densities in terms of spatial resolution. The findings provide information on suitable FFL trajectories and indicate initial trends for advantageous sampling patterns in the reference system. While the study presented here uses simulated data, the used software framework has the potential to generate sequenced signals based on real measurement data. Within this framework, we present a novel approach to FFL trajectory analysis.Publicationtype: Journal Article30 68 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Access status: with files , A flexible high-performance signal generation and digitization plattform based on low-cost hardware(Infinite Science Publishing, 2022-03-21); ; ; Modern imaging modalities, such as magnetic particle imaging (MPI), are based on complex sequences which require synchronous multi-channel signal generation and reception. The component of anMPI scanner responsible for this functionality is the data acquisition (DAQ) system. Different scanner topologies and the nature of (digital) signal processing impose varying requirements on such a system. In this work, we introduce the RedPitayaDAQServer project, which implements a flexible and scalable DAQ system. It is based on the low-cost hardware RedPitaya STEMlab 125-14 and is able to meet the requirements of most MPI scanner concepts that have been proposed to date.Publicationtype: Journal ArticleScopus© Citations 10 87 250
