Previous research has shown that the TRD is an effective and power efficient damping device. A prototype device was developed to evaluate these research results on a real structure. Footbridges are often, due to their slim and lightweight structure, susceptible to pedestrian induced vibrations. In this contribution, the development and implementation of the prototype on a footbridge in Belgium, the Eeklo footbridge, is presented. Here the focus is the development and construction of the prototype. For this purpose, a numerical investigation is performed to help determine the construction parameters of the prototype. The in-field experiments show that the TRD can effectively damp the pedestrian- induced vibration of the Eecklo footbridge in an power efficient manner with a prototype to structure mass-ratio of ca. 1%.Publicationtype: Conference Paper57
