Doped barium hexaferrite films for self-biased nonreciprocal components in the Q-/V-Band
Doped barium hexaferrite films prepared on alumina substrates by means of the sol-gel method, intended for utilization in self-biased nonreciprocal components, are presented in this letter. To cover a broad range of potential applications, the ferromagnetic resonant frequency (FMRF) of the material is controlled by substituting iron for scandium and aluminum. The films are deposited on coplanar waveguides to permit broadband measurements of the FMRF. As shown from measurements, the resonance can be shifted from 43.2 GHz for the undoped sample to 27.1 GHz and65.1 GHz for the films with the highest tested scandium and aluminum doping, respectively. X-ray diffraction analysis is used to evaluate the formation of secondary phases in the film. Measurement results for the hysteresis curves are obtained by vibrating sample magnetometer measurements. The results for doped and undoped samples are discussed in this letter.

Demo Abstract: Light in the Box — Reproducible Lighting Conditions for Solar-Powered Sensor Nodes
The restricted energy budget of energy-harvesting sensor nodes demands algorithms for adaptive duty-cycling. However, their comparison and development is hindered by the lack of reproducibility of environmental conditions. We enable replaying recorded light conditions by building an affordable light box. Our self-developed control circuit and high power LEDs allow us to repeatedly replay real environmental illumination data through current and voltage traces. This allows us to directly compare the behavior of nodes running different energy-aware and -predictive algorithms.

Scandium-doped barium hexaferrite thin-films for nonreciprocal satellite components
In this study scandium-doped barium hexaferrite thin-films intended for self-biased nonreciprocal devices are produced by means of the sol-gel method on alumina substrate. The scandium doping factor is varied between x = 0:025 and x = 0:4. X-ray diffraction analysis and the measured hysteresis curves are shown for both doped and undoped films. For broadband microwave characterization the thin-films are deposited on coplanar waveguides. In experiments the ferromagnetic resonance frequency is shown to be adjustable from 43:2 GHz to 27:1 GHz by increasing the scandium-doping level and nonreciprocal behavior is demonstrated.
