This thesis investigates the use of optical coherence tomography (OCT) for sensing tool-tissue interactions in robotic interventions. It explores the integration of miniaturized OCT with collaborative robotic systems to enable real-time, localized feedback at the needle tip. Additionally, it examines the application of deep learning adapted to spatio-temporal OCT data to enhance sensing accuracy and robustness. The results demonstrate the potential of OCT-based feedback for advancing intelligent surgical systems.
