T-beams are often used as structural concrete members. One aspect in the design of such members refers to the examination of the spreading forces in the nange. To equilibrate this spreading, transverse tensile forces are necessary. The general design procedure for this is based on Strut-and-Tie (or Stress Field) models. Codes of practice recommend fixed inclinations of the concrete struts and usually a constant reduction factor for the compressive strength. In the case of design this leads to safe results. However, for an assessment it might be worthwhile to improve the procedure. This contribution aims at further investigating this problem. An advanced method for the analysis of webs in shear, the Generalized Stress Field Approach, is applied to compression nanges. This leads to a consistent calculation procedure for web and nange. Furthermore, additional transverse bending is examined. The present analysis is compared to available test results and shows a reasonably good agreement.
