Passenger and freight transport are usually considered and designed separately. Recently, the search for innovative transport and vehicle technologies has intensified due to the growing shortage of drivers and the increasing economic and ecological demands on transport efficiency. One approach is the combined transport of passengers and goods. With the help of a process analysis and a total cost of ownership calculation, the article examines the economic benefit of a transport robot travelling in an autonomous shuttle. It can be shown that the use of a combined driverless passenger and goods transport can lead to cost savings. However, it must be taken into account that an economic use case only arises when both the shuttle and the transport robot can move without an attendant and robots are available on the market at lower prices.
