Item type:Publication, Access status: without files , A Model-Based Approach for Early and Continuous Validation of Avionics Platforms up to Virtual Products and Hybrid Platforms(2022-09); ; The trend of today's aviation shows a steadily increasing complexity of avionics systems and related functions. Emerging technologies, such as multi-core avionics, mixed-criticality systems on shared resources, and the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in the field of avionics, will accelerate this growth by introducing additional synergies and new constraints. However, this trend makes the complex and non-automated development process of avionics platforms more time-consuming and error-prone. To keep the increasing complexity within reasonable limits and to avoid major design iterations, new methods are needed to continuously validate the design and implementation choices. In this paper, we present a model-based concept for early and continuous validation of avionics platforms under development through all their phases - design, implementation, testing and ultimately, integration.Publicationtype: Conference Paper63 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Access status: without files , Testing of High-Lift System Functions with a Distributed Avionics Test Bench(2022-09); ; The new emerging trends in aviation like more autonomous aircraft or green aviation lead to a higher development workload of the supporting avionic infrastructure. To support these technologies, new processes must be developed as to increase the efficiency with which market readiness is made available. Geographically distributed testing reduces the need for transportation of test benches during development and allows for easier adaption before, during and after tests. The communication can be conducted via real-time supporting systems, like the specifically designed quasi-real-time Internet connection hardware FastWAN developed by ExxpertSystems. Additionally, abstract simulation environments can be used as a further approach as to, e.g., confirm interface definitions. This allows for parallel development of the proper test setup while ensuring continuous validation. Therefore, faults can be isolated earlier, and overall development time is reduced. While not replacing the need for proper certification testing, due to delays in the communication between the different systems, basic functionality and compatibility of subsystems can be analyzed. Consequently, development stakeholders are able to participate in the test process from their preferred development environment and therefore retain a high amount of flexibility. This increases the efficiency of late-stage tests, since the common test base is better coordinated. To research the advantages and challenges that this approach offers, a test bench for a high-lift system was set up and operated from three different locations distributed in Germany, each of them providing partial functionality.Publicationtype: Conference Paper53 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Access status: without files , Spatially Distributed Testing in Avionics: Setup, Experiences and Performance Assessment(2022-09); ; Testing of avionics platforms itself and with integrated system functions is a cost driver. Usually the hardware is developed in parallel to the software, which makes the iterative development process more difficult. Since testing of system functions always requires hardware and complex test-benches it is usually conducted quite late in the development process. This paper presents an approach to validate system functions by connecting several parts of a test-bench across the internet resulting in a distributed test-bench. This setup can be used for functional testing and for the preparation of the final system tests before all equipment is shipped into one large test facility. The paper focusses on the setup chosen for interconnection and performance tests that have been carried out to estimate the achievable connection quality with such a setup.Publicationtype: Conference Paper30
