Item type:Publication, Access status: without files , Influence of the fiber cutting angle on work piece emperature in drilling of unidirectional CFRPThe increasing use of carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) for structural components in modern aircrafts also increases the need for their reliable assembly. This is usually ccomplished by rivets, which require a large number of precision holes. Drilling is difficult due to contrasting fiber and resin properties and for non-crimp fabrics in particular due to their unidirectional plies. Thermal damage of CFRP components in the vicinity of bore holes should be avoided. Therefore, temperature distributions at the cutting surface of the workpiece as well as in the vicinity of the bore hole have been investigated experimentally while drilling of unidirectional CFRP and confirmed by numerical methods. Temperature changes with fiber cutting angle and heat mainly dissipates in fiber direction.Publicationtype: Conference Paper18
