Item type:Publication, Access status: without files , Why less is sometimes more: using Boolean literals to solve 2048Explaining and understanding AI-generated policies of control problems is crucial for the acceptance of such policies. Based on an optimisation challenge that took place at GECCO 2024, we describe different solutions for optimising generated policies for the well-known game 2048. At the same time, these generated policies aim to be simpler to understand and, thus, their decisions explainable in contrast to current solutions for 2048, as, e.g., neural network-based models. Our approach uses only Boolean expressions in the policy, and the optimisation shows that such a policy has advantages compared to more complex policy variants. The optimisation generates better results in a shorter time than for non-Boolean expressions. Additionally, the Boolean policies are smaller in size and can be reduced even more when applying existing techniques for term rewriting and simplification. These simplifications, again, may aid in understanding the policy's decision.Publicationtype: Journal Article74 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Access status: without files , Towards modular and scalable on-board computer architecture(2021-09-27); ; ; ; The demand for satellites and space systems with ever-increasing avionics requirements is constantly growing, whether in the field of satellite communications or earth observation. Traditional architectures for Data Handling Systems (DHS) on satellites are reaching their limits in terms of flexibility, interoperability and reusability, while slowing down the innovation cycle due to costly qualification. With regard to commercial and industrial solutions, it is evident that 'plug and play'-like systems based on open standards can overcome the above-mentioned disadvantages. For this reason, this paper describes how open standards could affect the architecture of future satellite DHSs. In particular it shows an transition path from the traditional federated architecture to a centralized but modular architecture based on adapted industrial standards.Publicationtype: Journal Article45 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Access status: with files , Mapping the sea of opportunities : Blockchain in supply chain and logisticsDriven by successful pilot projects in supply chain and logistics, Blockchain has become one of the industry’s latest technology hypes. In this paper, we cut through the hype and shed light on the expectations of industry professionals towards the benefits and challenges of Blockchain. Also, we categorize current Blockchain applications that are expected to provide tangible benefits for supply chain and logistics processes. To explore such potentials, we argue that companies should gain own first-hand experiences through small-scale experiments.Publicationtype: Journal ArticleScopus© Citations 67 671 2196 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, Access status: without files , MHT: A mobility-aware Distributed Hash TableMobile ad-hoc networks and distributed hash tables (DHT) share key characteristics in terms of self organization, decentralization, redundancy requirements, and limited infrastructure. However, node mobility and the continually changing physical topology pose a special challenge to scalability and the design of a DHT for mobile ad-hoc networks. In this paper, we show that with some local knowledge we can build a scalable and mobile structured peer-to-peer network, called Mobile Hash Table (MHT). Furthermore, we discuss practical challenges such as Churn, load balancing and security of MHT. A special focus is put on the differences and new challenges that the use of a DHT in a mobile environment poses..Publicationtype: Journal Article13
