Item type:Publication, Access status: without files , Improving assembly planning simulation with the use of virtual reality in the maritime industry(Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA), 2011); ; Production simulation and Virtual Reality (VR) are tools, which offer a high potential for a better planning of products in the Maritime Industry. However the potential is not fully exploited, because the planning results of the tools are often used separately. Focus of the paper is the outfitting assembly, for which the planned sequences are often not feasible. This may be either due to parts delivered late or caused by a rough cut planning that does not consider the exact physical order of parts. Software tools for planning generally only visualize the final design, but neither offer advanced investigation options to detect collisions or ergonomic deficits nor assist the user to set up the necessary restrictions. The developed integrative concept in this paper connects a simulation tool and a VR software and thereby is able to visualize, reschedule and validate the simulation results. ©2011: The Royal Institution of Naval Architects.Publicationtype: Conference Paper43
