Investigation into dynamic and static frequency and voltage stability of embedded island grids using battery-hybrid-systems
This article presents a novel approach for island operation of German low-voltage (LV) grids with high share of photovoltaic (PV) and charging stations for electro mobility (EM). For this purpose, suitable dynamic system models have been developed. This allows the simulation of dynamic events in very small time ranges and the operation management over longer periods of time. In order to proof the assumptions, which were made for the simulation, a LV-grid test bench has been implemented (Figure 4) at the University of Technology Hamburg. It is shown that the frequency and voltage stability can be ensured by the installed grid forming inverters, even for high load steps. An operation strategy has been developed, which makes it possible to operate the LV-grid in island mode without using additional information and communication technology (ICT). For this purpose, a battery hybrid system (BHS) connected to the bus bar operates as a grid forming unit. Furthermore a voltage analysis of rural radial LV-grids has been accomplished by simulating critical days of the year and a bus-bar-voltage control algorithm has been developed.

Novel Method for Multi-scale Hardware-in-the-Loop Simulation of Automotive Mechatronic Components
With more and more complex electronic control units (ECU) in modern automotive applications the need for adequate testing possibilities rises. This paper presents a hardware-in-the-Ioop (HIL) test implementation for ECUs with very high dynamic capabilities. Based on real time parallel analog and digital simulation it is able to process pulse width modulated (PWM) signals with up to 25 kilohertz with step sizes of 385 nanoseconds. The simulation's digital output signal drives newly developed power electronics, processing the high dynamic simulation results with a resolution of 1 milliampere and a current change rate of 6.4 ampere per microsecond. In addition generic simulation models of different loads are developed.

Frequency control in coupled energy systems with high penetration of renewable energies
The integration of Renewable Energies (RE) into the existing energy supply system has proven to very challenging due to the fluctuating nature of RE ressources. However, the negative environmental impacts of power generation can be significantly reduced by limiting the share of fossil fuels used in energy production. As a result wind and photovoltaic capacity in the synchronous grid of continental Europe (UCTE) is increasing. Thus both the European Union and Germany have set ambitious goals for the future growth of RE. The objective of this paper is to show the impacts of RE generation on the dispatch of generation from conventional plants while taking into account must-run capacities of combined heat and power (CHP) plants in district heating grids. Furthermore, the presented results give an estimation for the decrease of rotating masses that are caused by the replacement of conventional plants by RE converters. Subsequently, counteractive measures such as energy storage in the district heating grid and wind inertia control will be discussed.

Signal transmission characteristic of power distribution systems on ships for frequencies up to 500 kHz

    Dakir, Hicham
The analysis of the characteristics of power distribution systems on ships is presented. The multiconductor line theory is used for modeling the typical configurations. The model parameters of the line are numerically calculated and experimentally validated. Proximity effect, inhomogeneity of the medium and shield coupling are taken into account. Using the developed model the influence of shield grounding arrangement and the line configuration on the data transmission is simulated to define requirements on network design for a communication with a minimum disturbance.
