    Consistent Maintenance Order Processing with Digital Assistance Systems
    Augmented reality-based digital assistance systems have proven their potential to support with instructions considering numerous application scenarios in the product life cycle. For the maintenance of machines and plants, however, their use becomes particularly efficient if the diagnosis at the operator’s site can be effectively supported, so that the service provider and his experts can make accurate diagnoses for this maintenance job, plan the execution including the spare parts logistics precisely, and document as well as billing the maintenance case with low effort. For this purpose, a modular digital assistance system is presented that provides support adapted to the process phases.

    Using the Smartphone as an Augmented Reality Device in ETO Industry
    Industrial Augmented Reality (IAR) has proven its potential in ETO industry by improving productivity and acting as a key technology for consistent digital information flows. In order to leverage these potentials on a significant scale, broad distribution of IAR inside a company should be aimed for. However, most applications have not yet overcome a prototype state and failed to make the step into production. Primary limiting factors are inadequate device availability and acceptance of current IAR solutions, which focus on smart glasses and tablet devices. The aim of this paper is to examine whether smartphones have the potential to serve as a platform for IAR in ETO industry. First the user interface of an existing tablet IAR prototype is adapted to a smartphone in order to later evaluate user experience. Hence a survey to assess worker preferences between tablet and smartphone devices for common IAR supported tasks is developed. The survey design is tested on a group of workers from ETO industry.

    Holistic Maintenance Support with a Digital Assistance System
    To ensure the technical availability of machines and equipment on board, maintenance and repair processes must be fast and error-free. In order to improve productivity for both on-board personnel and service technicians of the plant manufacturers, an Augmented Reality ecosystem has been developed thatsupports the preparation, execution and post-processing of maintenancetaskswith targeted software modules. These include the use of the maintenance history, which is made available viaanonline backend, support for diagnostic findings, the display of maintenance instructions, feedback of adjustment values and documentation of the work, including storage in a digital twin. The potential estimation of industrial users showed time savings of up to 60% per maintenance action

    Weiterbildung in der Instandhaltung mit digitalen Assistenzsystemen
    (GITO mbH Verlag für Industrielle Informationstechnik und Organisation, 2020) ; ; ;
    Um den reibungslosen Betrieb von komplexen Anlagen sicherzustellen, sind Wartungs- und Instandhaltungsaufgaben sowohl vom Servicepersonal der Hersteller als auch von Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeitern der Anlagenbetreiber durchzuführen. Zum Erwerb des notwendigen Wissens bieten die Hersteller zum Teil Weiterbildungskurse für die komplexen Einzelsysteme an, wie z. B. die Antriebsmotoren eines Schiffes, zum Teil vertrauen die Anlagenbetreiber auf „Learning by doing“. Allerdings sind für alle wesentlichen Komponenten Wartungsanleitungen – meist in Papierform – verfügbar. Eine neue Entwicklung im Umfeld von Industrie 4.0 und der Entwicklung von digitalen Zwillingen sind digitale Wartungsassistenzsysteme. Diese können das Personal des Anlagenbetreibers bei typischen Aufgaben mithilfe von Augmented Reality (AR) anleiten. Der vorliegende Beitrag zeigt auf, wie ein Gesamtsystem gestaltet werden kann, das sich durch einen modularen Aufbau sowohl für die Weiterbildung und Lernkontrolle eignet als auch die Wartung selbst unterstützt. Dadurch wird ein durchgängiger und aufwandsarmer Einsatz erreicht.

    Aufwandsarme Erstellung von AR-Anleitungen für die maritime Instandhaltung
    (DVV Media Group, Seehafen-Verlag, 2019-11) ; ; ;
    Um die aufwendige Handhabung papiergebundener Wartungs- und Reparaturanleitungen zu vermeiden, setzen Industrieunternehmen zunehmend auf Augmented Reality (AR). Eine wesentliche Herausforderung für die industrielle Nutzung der animierten AR-Anleitungen ist jedoch die aufwandsarme und nutzerfreundliche Erstellung der Informationsinhalte. Wissenschaftler der Technischen Universität Hamburg (TUHH) haben untersucht, wie benutzerfreundliche maritime Instandhaltungsanleitungen erzeugt werden können.
