Item type:Publication, Access status: without files , Modeling Autonomous Delivery Robots Under Framework of Automated Driving System Using Dynamic Transport Assignment: A State-of-the-ArtThe integration of Autonomous Delivery Robot (ADR) into the current logistics system, widely viewed as a promising last-mile solution, represents a significant advancement in modern delivery methods. Before deployment in practical applications, Autonomous Delivery Robots (ADR) undergo comprehensive testing phases, including Modeling and Simulation (M&S), Closed-Track Testing, and Open-Road Testing. The microscopic transportation simulation is a reliable test among different M&S methods. The ADR lacks a dedicated framework aimed at the Operation Design Domain (ODD) of Automated Driving Systems (ADS), unlike standard Automated Vehicle (AV). To achieve improved and predictable road safety, effective management of traffic conditions, and ultimately secure broader acceptance, ADR modeling should align with the appropriate Operational Design Domain (ODD), particularly for microscopic transportation simulation. The Operational Design Domain (ODD) ensures safe and reliable operation by considering factors such as physical infrastructure, operational limits, objects, connectivity, environmental conditions, and zones, though not all are applicable in microscopic transportation simulations. Implying the intermodal transportation for the ADR in commercially available Graphical User Interface (GUI) based simulators is not yet in practice. Therefore, there is a notable absence of implementation method. Dynamic Public Transport Assignment (formerly known as Dynamic Transit Assignment) is one of the few methods that addresses overlapping traffic agents and road users in the widely used microscopic simulator, Aimsun. This study proposed a set of ODD when utilizing Dynamic Public Transport Assignment to establish a logistics system that facilitates intermodal transportation of ADR. The results show ADR based network coverage require longer travel time for delivery than intermodal transport added scenario. This paper improves how ADR is modeled in suggested ODD and looks at how Dynamic Public Transport Assignment affects intermodal logistics, giving a foundation for modelers and researchers, making it state-of-the-art.Publicationtype: Conference Paper66 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Access status: with files , Endbericht des Forschungsvorhabens TaBuLa-LOGplus(Technische Universität Hamburg, 2025); ; ; ; The TaBuLa-LOGplus project was based on the results of the two previous projects TaBuLa and TaBuLa-LOG in order to significantly advance automation in the interaction between passenger and freight transport. A central goal of the project was the development of a manufacturer- and vehicle-independent smart control centre, which integrates both the automated transport robots further developed by TUHH and the conventional buses used by vhh.mobility. This offers the added value of optimal use of resources by bundling transport and transportation tasks. The control centre also meets the legal requirement that the automated vehicle can be shut down by a human at any time. Data protection and security were always considered and taken into account. In tests, the control centre could be used by both experienced and non-experienced users for order creation and vehicle monitoring. To achieve this high level of automation, the transport robots were further developed to the point where they can get in and out of a conventional bus independently in order to carry out transport tasks transmitted by the control centre. Additionally, the topic of artificial intelligence (AI) was included into the TaBuLa-LOGplus project. To ensure safe operation of the transport robots in complex and dynamic environments, advanced AI methods for environment detection and situational awareness were investigated. The aim was to automatically detect anomalies and potential hazards and respond appropriately. The impact of the transport robots was investigated through accompanying analyses, simulations and assessments regarding traffic, ecological, economic and social effects. The analysis of traffic effects according to Vester showed that the system can be consciously controlled via highly active and active variables and certain causal relationships (e. g. supply and demand) must be considered. Parcel delivery using transport robots on the last mile can offer ecological and economic advantages if they are transported by an electrically powered bus. The additional simulations also lead to the conclusion that the integration of autonomous transport robots into public transport can be safe and cost-efficient. Overall, the TaBuLa-LOGplus project was the successful next step of the previous projects, as it continued, further developed and incorporated new frame-work conditions.Publicationtype: Research Report75 67 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Access status: with files , Towards a fundamental understanding on microscopic transportation simulation of autonomous delivery robots(Serbian Society for Roads VIA VITA, 2024-06-19); ; A large number of studies were focused into the adoption of ADRs in the current transportation and logistics, safety in practical applications, and deployment of advanced robotic technology. Only a few contributed to the simulation of microscopic transportation for autonomous delivery robots. Many researchers emphasized the importance of overcoming modelling gaps and covering the scope of simulation as realistically as possible in order to obtain reliable results from the simulation. The versatility of the technology, the nature of the logistics and components of ADR in the real world, and other challenges present challenges to the transportation modeller when it comes to thinking about the possible representation of ADRs in the simulation environment. The gradual development of both computational capacity and underlying behavioural patterns in microscopic traffic simulators opens the door for researchers to develop realistic ADRs model in the microscopic transportation simulation to investigate road interaction and the resulting impacts. This review explored and organized the currently available technologies, operational methods, and simulation components that need to be considered when modelling ADRs in microscopic traffic simulation. Furthermore, this review provides a basic understanding for modellers to address the potential challenges to cope on recent technological developments in ADR modelling and simulation.Publicationtype: Review Article39 98 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Access status: with files , How do humanlike behaviors of connected autonomous vehicles affect traffic conditions in mixed traffic?(Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute (MDPI), 2024-03); ; ; Different methodologies are being used to study the effects of autonomous vehicles (AVs) in mixed traffic to exhibit the interactions between autonomous and human-driven vehicles (HVs). Microscopic simulation tools are popular in such an assessment, as they offer the possibility to experiment in economical, robust, and optimistic ways. A lack of reliable real-world data (also known as natural data) to calibrate and evaluate the connected autonomous vehicle (CAV) simulation model is a major challenge. To deal with this situation, one interesting methodology could be to deal with the CAVs as conventional human-driven vehicles and predict their possible characteristics based on the simulation inputs. The conventional human-driven vehicles from the real world, in this methodology, come to act as a benchmark to offer the measure of effectiveness (MoE) for the calibration and validation. For the three most common driving behaviors, a sensitivity analysis of the behaviors of AVs and an effective assessment of CAVs in a mixed traffic environment were performed to explore the humanlike behaviors of the autonomous technology. The findings show that, up to a certain point, which is directly related to the quantity of interacting vehicles, the impact of CAVs is typically favorable. This study validates the approach and supports past studies by showing that CAVs perform better than AVs in terms of their traffic performance and safety aspects. On top of that, the sensitivity analysis shows that enhancements in the technology are required to obtain the maximum advantages.Publicationtype: Journal Article37 246 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Access status: with files , Evaluation and spatial analysis of road accidents in Bangladesh : an emerging and alarming issueAround 1.2 million people are being killed, and more than 50 million people are being injured in road accidents each year around the world. Due to Urbanization and motorization road accident has been increasing dramatically over the last few years. According to the Accident Research Institute (ARI) of BUET, on an average, 20 people are dying every day in Bangladesh. Reckless driving, overloading identified as a significant causes for road accidents. Moreover, motorbikes has a higher number of accidents in Bangladesh. The main objective is to identify the leading causes of road accidents and the spatial distribution of road accidents. The data of accidents were collected from different secondary sources for the last 50 years. Qualitative and semi quantitate methods were used to analyze the statistical data. For spatial distribution of road accidents, the kernel density estimation method is used as well as critical area index for hazardous locations. The critical area index has presented from crash rate and causality rate of the zone as a dangerous area with the score (1–10) where highs score represents the most dangerous region for road accidents. The traffic department and the Government has a crucial role to play in identifying reckless driving, speeding and overloaded vehicles, and the government and citizens have an essential role to play in ensuring road safety as well.Publicationtype: Journal Article31 311
