    Model transformation framework for scheduling offshore logistics
    Purpose: Wind energy is a promising technology to produce sustainable energy. While higher wind speeds at sea result in higher energy production, they also impede the installation of wind farms. Several authors proposed optimization- or simulation-based scheduling models. This article provides a framework to instantiate different models and discusses their advantages and disadvantages using selected models from the literature. Methodology: Building upon previous research, which deducted a common meta-model by analyzing current literature, the framework realizes this model using the OMG’s Essential Meta-Object Facility Standard. Moreover, the framework uses the OMG’s Model To Text Transformation Language for transformations to different models found in the literature and from previous work, to evaluate their behavior given the same base-scenario. Findings: The results show that the proposed framework achieves an instantiation of different model types, i.e., a mathematical optimization, a multi-agent simulation, and a Petri-Nets-based simulation. The discussion highlights the advantages of these types regarding speed, optimality, and flexibility. As the primary advantage, this framework allows investigating the installation on varying levels, focusing on local resources, processes, or the global system. Originality: This research aims to operationalize a common meta-model and model transformations between different model formulations by applying well-established standards to realize a basis for using these models during the planning and schedul-ing of offshore activities. To the authors’ best knowledge, no comparable work on the integration of different modeling techniques in the area of offshore logistics ex-ists.

    Modelling the IT and Business Process Landscapes at Inland Intermodal Terminals
    Purpose: A wide range of customer relationships, services and organizational inter-faces characterizes inland intermodal terminals, which are hubs of combined transport. The purposes of this paper are twofold. The first is to highlight challenges of small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) at the time of digitalization. Secondly, approaches to illustrate the IT and business landscape are presented. Methodology: This paper is based on a literature analysis as well as interviews and identifies aspects of SME- and branch-specific IT and business process landscapes of inland terminals. Moreover, approaches to visualize those landscapes are high-lighted and a distinction is made between different software map types. Findings: Inland intermodal terminals often use a variety of different small, some-times self-developed IT solutions. Findings show a lack of means of communications and IT equipment as well as the interlinking of systems, which lead to media breaks and inefficient information flow. Therefore, approaches to visualize relevant pro-cesses and their application landscapes are presented. Originality: Most literature focuses on larger terminals, which use terminal operat-ing systems (TOS) to manage and link computerized applications efficiently. Due to the effort required to adapt TOS to operational conditions as well as resulting costs, these are often not an option for small and medium-sized terminals. This paper pro-vides a basis for SMEs to systematically visualize and improve their IT and process landscape.

    Blockchain technology in Germany: an excerpt of real use cases in logistics industry
    (2020-09-23) ;
    Purpose: Due to the large number of intermediaries in logistics networks there is avariety of possible failures, frictions and waste of time and money among the logisticsprocess chain. With the ability to provide data securely in near real-time, liketrack and tracing data of goods to every participant, the Blockchain-Technology(BCT) can help to solve these problems. Methodology: A structured literature analysis has been executed by using the databasesWeb of Science and Science Direct to find out current intermediary´s functionsand real use cases. In addition, available other sources, like manufacturer websites,blog entries or whitepapers are searched for specific blockchain-based applicationsinvented and used by German companies. The identified use cases are then qualitativelyanalyzed. Findings: The first results showed that most of the business cases are still in the conceptphase or are merely ideas how the BCT could solve existing problems. Additionally,we got results on the distribution of applications and economic benefits alongthe logistics chain. Furthermore, important conclusions on implementation problemscan be derived from this. Originality: In order to maintain Germany´s top economic position, it is necessaryto push ahead with the adaption of the BCT. Our analysis contains first results in thearea of real blockchain use cases of German companies. Initial comparisons betweencurrently used and blockchain-based logistics networks are also possible.

    Northern Sea Route e-platforms : tools for competitive development
    Purpose: The current study purpose is preparation of proposals for the creation of digital services platforms, which could be provided on the Northern Sea Route as an international maritime transport corridor, on the basis of an existing maritime container industry e-platforms analysis, as well as on the basis of the transport market participants requirements for the composition and characteristics of services. Methodology: The problem is considered in terms of the Enterprise Architecture approach. This study uses TOGAF and the Capability Driven Approach (CDA), a modern approach to the information systems development. These approaches help in analyzing the peculiarities of global e-platforms from the perspective of aggregating the enterprise architecture components into a business capability and provide foundation for the suggested tools determination. Findings: Conducted studies suggest that the digital business ecosystems development is now widespread in the maritime container shipping industry, and e-platforms are an effective tool to ensure their performance. With the help of EA and CDA, it is possible to formulate proposals for e-platforms, based on the synthesis of transport market participants requirements. Originality: The NSR development as international transport corridor along with benefits at the same time is controversial for carriers for a number of reasons, including the need of the NSR competitiveness increase by providing service at the level usual for carriers. The results of this paper create a foundation for further researches of digital services development in Arctic maritime logistics.

    Blockchain technology – integration in supply chain processes
    Purpose: Supply chain networks face an increasing demand to integrate globally distributedcustomers and suppliers. As supply chain processes are deemed to lack sufficienttransparency and security, blockchain solutions are piloted to offer an IT infrastructurecovering these needs. This paper aims to bring current projects one stepfurther and evolves a model for integrating blockchain solutions into supply chainprocesses. Methodology: In order to get an overview of existing models for technology integration,an exploratory research study is conducted. In addition, requirements for thespecific integration of blockchain solutions are gathered and categorized in a systematiccontent analysis. Based on these requirements, the models are evaluated,compared and utilized for the development of a new model. Findings: Since none of the presented models fully meet the specific blockchainbasedrequirements, the existing models must be further developed. Specifically, increasesin the number of supply chain partners and external stakeholders involvedin blockchain-based systems are not supported by current models, and need to beintegrated systematically. Originality: In this paper, an integration model is developed that is particularly suitablefor blockchain integration into supply chain processes. In order to give startingpoints for a validation of the model, a case study is conducted in the field of blockchain-based payment gateway solutions.

    Mastering the supply chain by a concept of a ditigal control-twin
    Purpose: The purpose is to design a new concept for control of the Supply-Chain for the era of industry 4.0 exploiting the huge amount of actual data of material flow ob-jects which are available thru new identification technologies, localization and com-munication systems and to use appropriate tools for evaluation and analyzing actual data. Methodology: The approach uses the idea of a Digital-Twin Concept for logistics that bases of three pillars: 1) 'reality': actual status of material flow objects 2) 'repository': digital mapping of material flow objects 3) 'regulation' of material flow. The real and virtual material flow objects are permanently compared, deviations are evaluated and harmonized by using the principle of closed-loop-control. Originality: The concept is a very new approach to master material flow for final products and required components. For this a 'Big- Picture' of a Digital Control Twin (DCT) System is designed, which is a necessary complement to the engineering ori-ented Digital-Twin-Concept to run a smart factory. Findings: The paper shows how the idea of a Digital Twin Concept for engineered products can be transferred into the world of logistics and especially for supply chains. The Digital Control Twin controls, monitors and balances material flow ob-jects according to quantity, location and time and can help to predict and solve prob-lems in advance.
