Integration von smarten Handwerkzeugen und digitalen Assistenzsystemen
This dissertation develops a concept for integrating smart hand tools and digital assistance systems to improve assembly processes for complex and highly variant products. Using aircraft manufacturing as an example, the concept shows how information efforts and process errors can be reduced and how aviation-compliant documentation can be simplified. A four-stage integration approach combines tools and assistance systems within a software platform. Laboratory studies demonstrate increased productivity and quality as well as high user acceptance. Practical investigations highlight the concept's transferability to other industries.

    Logistische Modellierung von Chargenarbeitssystemen
Batch workstations handle multiple orders simultaneously and can therefore achieve high output rates. At the same time, they lead to high work in process levels and long throughput times. This thesis investigates the influence of batch workstations on the logistic objectives. A deductive-experimental approach is used to derive the output rate and the throughput time as a function of the work in process level. In addition, the thesis investigates the influence of the batch generation on lateness. The modeling enables industrial companies to position themselves in the system of conflicting objectives for production logistics.

A digital assistance system for maritime commissioning processes
This dissertation proposes a Digital Assistance System (DAS) consisting of an authoring assistant, a commissioning assistant, and a Digital Twin to address maritime commissioning challenges. The authoring assistant improves commissioning plan creation by employing automation. The commissioning assistant uses IoT technology to streamline testing and documentation. The Digital Twin connects the DAS to the shipyard’s IT infrastructure. The evaluation of the DAS shows reduced execution times and error rates, with high usability. The evaluation also identifies long-term benefits such as digital certification and efficient maintenance planning.

    Modellbasierte Auftragsannahme und -terminierung
Make-to-order companies have to deal with uncertainties while processing their offers. In the early phase of offer planning, it is uncertain (1) which open offers will be accepted by customers and (2) what capacities the resulting orders will require. Therefore, it is particularly challenging to determine realistic delivery times and to promise them bindingly. The model-based order acceptance and scheduling procedure allows to determine realistic delivery times with the help of early available information and by using the throughput diagram. An extensive evaluation of the procedure shows that it can effectively and robustly support logistical target achievement.

Digitale Assistenzsysteme für kollaboratives Arbeiten in der Unikatproduktion
The production of complex, unique products requires the cooperation of many different parties. If a disruption occurs in a subprocess, it affects parallel or subsequent work processes and delays the overall process. The digital assistance system for collaborative work presented in this thesis offers situation-specific information provision for workers and enables informative disruption reports to be created with just a few clicks. Stakeholders in relevant construction areas are automatically notified and site managers can clearly manage, prioritize, and troubleshoot the disruptions. The system greatly increases transparency in the overall process context and con-tributes to reducing lead times.

Nutzung von Motion-Capture-Technologien zur individuellen Ergonomieanalyse in der Produktion
Musculoskeletal disorders are the main cause of sick leave in the manufacturing sector. One reason for this is that companies do not sufficiently consider the individual characteristics and capabilities of employees when designing their work. This dissertation presents a method for an individual ergonomics analysis in manufacturing. The method records worker capabilities and the individual strain at the workplace with the help of a motion capture system. The individual assessment helps companies find targeted workplace improvement measures.

Analyse und Optimierung von Suchvorgängen in der industriellen Produktion
In industrial production, search processes appear whenever material or information is needed. Although searching is a fundamental activity within production processes, existing models within production management are not capable of analyzing search processes. This work presents an approach for modeling industrial search processes and describes an analysis procedure for evaluating search efforts in production. In addition, an improvement procedure for systematically deriving measures to reduce search efforts is described. The entire method was successfully applied and evaluated in a low-volume, high-variance production environment.

    Informationsmanagement für ein digitales Instandhaltungsassistenzsystem
Today, the creation of maintenance manuals requires a lot of time. Using these paper documents is also time-consuming because information has to be searched out tediously. The information management for a digital maintenance assistance system presented in this thesis shows that the effort for creating manuals and searching out information from the paper documents can be significantly reduced.

Modellierung und Auslegung der Reihenfolgebildung mit Rüstfamilien
This thesis develops a model that describes the influence of a setup-optimized sequencing rule on the logistic objectives output rate and throughput time. The results can be visualized in the form of operating curves, thus extending the existing theory of logistic operating curves. The work presents guidelines that help companies to apply the model profitably.
